I finally completed the quest for the Scepter of the Shifting Sands! Much gold and time spent of something that will hopefully be another Feat of Strength. I do enjoy running through the quest lines like that feeling that in some way I am helping to change Azeroth (even belatedly in respect to the AQ questline).

With the gold target, I passed 80k the other day despite spending a few thousand retraining my tailor for Inscription. I guess the main priority now is making sure I log in each day to do the minor and Northrend Glyph research. On the positive side I do have a bigger stock of glyphs and inks now.

Shifting Sands - Goal update

I have a few current goals in progress (as well as the ones form the earlier post).

I decided to try and complete the questline for the Scepter of the Shifting Sands (The AQ opening questline) which will be a FoS achievement in Cataclysm.
So far I have managed to complete the Green Shard quests, and most of the blue chain. I still have one remaing page from the Draconic for Dummies to obtain from Onyxia. I tried that this week with a PUG, but it seems someone didn't loot her so I couldn't get to the quest item. If I get that this week, I will have to defeat Maws in Azshara to complete that chain. The Red chain should be a fairly simple matter of defeating Nefarian in BWL, although again this week ended with a fail as we couldn't get past Chromaggus with just four 80s.
On the positive side, I got exalted with Brood of Nozdormu, got a full Avengers set (from AQ40) and completed my cooking recipe collection with Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops.

In other news...
I'm slowly getting closer to my goal of 100k gold by Cata. I surpassed 62k yesterday, still bringing in 1-2k per day, although this has slowed since I'm stocking up on certain things and the piles of Elementium Ingots and other mats I needed for the above quests cost quite a few k.

I also forged the Sulfuron Hammer in the event that the Eye drops from Ragnaros on an MC run. It's currently on the AH in the also unlikely event that some rich lazy legendary seeker wants to make me a sizable profit rather than farm all the mats themselves.

And finally, my best moment of the last week was getting the final Mask for the A Mask for all Occasions achievement, at 22.00 on the final day of Hallows End with one Trick or Treat attempt to spare.

A week of 4.0.1

So I've survived the patch so far, and aside from a few bugs (cogwheel of DC), I'm starting to enjoy healing as a newly revamped Holy Paladin. I've only managed a couple of raids and randoms heroics so far having been distracted by the Halloween Holiday event and my quest to get the last remaining masks for the A Mask for All Occasions achievement. Still 6 to go...
I also passed the 50k gold mark and am growing the cash pile by about2k a day at the moment, although I expect that will subside as the glyph market settles again for a bit.
I am really back to concentrating on the Heirloom enchant market since I think some people will be preparing for Cataclysm and their new Worgen/Goblin alts. I think this market should explode straight after the release when those races become available to level.

Add-on Cold Turkey

So, as I expected, I haven't made a post for a while. I've not been playing WoW quite as much as usual and the recent 4.0.1 patch had sent me into a bit of add-on cold-turkey. Apparently I've come to rely so much on add-ons I can barely play the game without them.
The various adventures I've had since then have included finishing my Violet Eye rep (Kara) and lots of gem, glyph and enchant scroll production.
In my auctioneering mode, I jumped on the bandwagon thinking the epic gem transmute was being removed in 4.0.1. Sadly this wasn't the case and I was left with quite a few stacks of rare gems and eternals. This hasn't been all bad though. Since a huge number of people have been changing their gear and re-enchanting gemming, the demand for these items which was in a bit of a slump previously has soared again. I've been selling tons of Eternal Belt Buckles which is using up my eternal stock slowly, and the rare gem market has been helping to remove the stockpiles of those gems I have.
I am of course aiming to have sold all of the LK rare and epic gems by the time Cataclysm is released since they will generally be worthless having been replaced by the Cata green quality gems.
On the glyph front I managed to sell a fair number making about 9k gold, but I was limited by not being able to log in straight after the patch and repost, and also the glyphs I could make were limited by the fact that my Inscribernatrix is only skilled up to 225 due to only being level 25. So in general I didn't do so bad, and the glyphs I still have are selling steadily now at the much higher prices, forced by the recipes all taking 3 times as much ink.
Enchanting also provided a quick boost, as for some reason all types of enchants were selling really well including a lot of twink enchants for BoA weapons (as I mentioned in a previous post). Why people were buying these straight after the patch, I'm not really that sure, although I expect a massive demand for these when Cataclysm hits as people suddenly realise they want the best enchants for their new Worgen/Goblin alts.

In future, I'll try and post smaller regular updates than a bid data-overload like this one.

Best Heirloom Enchants

With Cataclysm looming ever closer, one good gold making strategy is old world enchants for heirloom gear. I've seen a few of these lists appear, but I thought I'd compile my own list of the best enchants for the BoA gear that are selling well on my server.

Weapon Enchant's:

Enchant Weapon - Crusader (Drops from mobs in plaguelands)
2 Righteous Orbs + 4 Large Brilliant Shards
Crusader is a consistent good seller due to the massive strength proc for lower levels. This is by far the best recipe to make money from on my server.

4 Small Radiant Shards + 1 Essence of Fire
This is the second best seller I have, and the mats are fairly easy and cheap to get.

8 Large Brilliant Shards + 4 Essence of Airs

4 Large Brilliant Shards + 4 Essence of Airs
These were some the latest additions to my enchanting recipes due to the Timbermaw rep grind, but they are selling well.

4 Large Brilliant Shards + 4 Essence of Earths
This is a fairly easy recipe to get and is nice and cheap to produce.

6 Large Brilliant Shards + 4 Greater Eternal Essences + 12 Illusion Dust
This is less popular than some of the others but does sell occasionally for a decent profit.

6 Large Brilliant Shards + 5 Greater Eternal Essences + 20 Illusion Dust
With spellpower going away as a stat on items, this is becoming more popular and already sells for a very high profit margin.

Getting started with writing addons - WoWWiki - Your guide to the World of Warcraft

Getting started with writing addons - WoWWiki - Your guide to the World of Warcraft

I have yet again sparked the idea of dabbling with add-on creation. As with other home programming ideas, it is likely not to last, but in the event that it does, I thought I'd link the WoWWiki page that has given me the best starting information after a couple of hours of trawling. I did in the past install and use the Visual Studio editor for WoW, but that now seems to have stopped development and appears to not work with the latest patch (3.3.5).

I find myself wondering if i went a little bit mad yesterday when I spent around 10k gold buying up enough Primordial Saronite to get to the next step of the Shadowmourne quest. All of this for a legendary weapon for offspec.
I mean it's highly unlikely I'll get past the collecting souls stage, but is it worth the gold and the time for the chance at a legendary item? Given our guild only managed about 8 Fragments of Val'anyr over our entire Ulduar raiding time, it's not really likely. (Although that in my opinion was due to never saving the raid and resetting it each week, which meant we hardly ever raided the keepers, never mind beyond).

So my thoughts this evening are on goals. In particular what goals I want to complete before the release of Cataclysm.
Here are a few that spring to mind:

  1. Kill LK25/Sindragosa10 - (to complete ICC on at least one raid size. I already have Kingslayer from being invited to a friend's guild's raid which I missed Sindra, and our guild has finally reached LK25.)
  2. Kill Yogg-Saron - (We never finished Ulduar on either 10/25man, only having a few tries on Yogg.)
  3. Obtain the 7 remaining JC recipes I am missing on Palkei. (6 from Sunwell trash drops, 1 from BC dungeon drop)
  4. Break 100k gold barrier. (Not sure I've got time to get gold-capped, although that's a stretch goal.)
  5. Get my lvl 78 priest alt to 80.
  6. Get Chopper and Tundra Mammoth

I am planning on posting links to sites I use fairly frequently or have found useful in the past. This site was a great resource for getting my Blacksmithing, Alchemy, Enchanting and Tailoring tradeskills levelled to max. I have other alts in progress for other skills, but they are restricted by their levels at the moment until I find time to level the chars themselves.

First Post

Hi everyone. Not sure whether I'll manage to keep this going, but it's a new start blogging about something I spend a fair amount of time on.
I am planning to cover various topics on this blog, including my experiences with my main Holy Paladin (Palkei),  levelling alts (before and during Cataclysm) and making gold in WoW.
